10 Podcasts You Should Hear…TWICE!!

I am an avid podcast listener, and as a young fledgling podcaster myself I eager take in all the good and bad that I hear. So this list will be the most helpful and best podcasts in the bunch. I will not rank them nor will I say there aren’t better out there but I decided to choose 10 and I am sticking to it. So if I listen to you, and your not here I am sorry just the constraints I put upon myself nothing against you and don’t worry there maybe a second list(of course there will be lol I just can’t help myself). So here it is 10 podcasts you should hear, TWICE!!

The first podcast I ever downloaded and listened to and still do to this day religiously:

I Should Be Writing by Mur Lafferty

This is a podcast for wanna be fiction writers by a up and coming if not already there fiction writer. Mur Lafferty has opened herself up to her fans and friends alike letting us in on her writing ups, down, rises and falls. She also has openly and candidly talked about her own issues ranging from social anxieties to fighting depression and all the while she is dishing out advice and raising a young one and loving a husband. She is one of the strongest and smartest people I have ever had the pleasure to meet though sadly I totally fanboy’d all over the moment and will have to make up for that hopefully with this years Balticon(fingers crossed)

The Round Table Podcast

This author interview and literary workshop podcast, hosted by the literary alchemists themselves Dave Robison and Brion Humphrey is marvelous to hear. These guys interview a fellow author one episode then the next they being them back and maybe even a fourth host of mystery and then workshop an authors story right on air. I have learned so much about so many people and about spit balling ideas and building a story this is a great podcast to listen to and learn from.

The Shared Desk

The newest podcast outing from godfather of podcasting himself Tee Morris and his lovely wife Pip Ballentine Morris. What can I say about this podcast on writing, social media, marketing, and even bits of there personal life along with their solo and tandem careers. Other than its awesome and when you hear it great things will be shared with you, along with copious drop in awesome from the TeeMonster himself 😛

The Shrinking Man Project

This is a powerful podcast were one man talks very candidly and openly about his struggles and successes with loosing weight and being healthier. That man is Doc Coleman whom I have met and wish I could dress half as dapperly as this man. As someone who has recently had to start being healthier and watching my weight and what I eat and so forth the listen to this podcast and hear about what he goes through and the advice he has and motivations he yields is utterly amazing and a fantastic listen for anyone to learn from.

We Hate Hate Movies

We Hate Movies

A movie review podcast hosted by Andrew Jupin, Chris Cabin, Steve Sajdak, and Eric Szyszka is down right hilarious. They watch movies 10 years old or older and in a comedic way talk about them. Simple right? Right simple and its effective comedy gold.

Yeah It’s That Bad

A shrouded in as much mystery as it is in a massive fart cloud of running gags, in jokes, and bouts of uncontrollable laughter. These three unknown hosts(and they like it that way) are Kevin, Joel, and Martin(and yes Kevin was listed first on purpose) review movies suggested by fans or on a whim they decided to watch and its a wonderful journey to embark with these three… gentleman(?)

Anime World Order

Probably one of these most untimely podcast on the internet but despite it all these three characters Clarissa, Jarold, and Daryl has one of these most knowledgable and informative anime podcast you every wanna listen to and listen you will.

Film Sack

Join Scott Johnson and his FilmSack pals, Brian Ibbot, Brian Dunaway, and Randy Jordan with powerful and spectacularly voiced Scott Flecher as narrator? as they watch films from Netflix streaming and review them just like you and your pals would then dish out some film sack approved awards to finish it up. this podcast is a fun time for all

Blame It On Outer Space

A podcast debunking conspiracy theories in a comedic way. This podcast is the brain bomb of Eric Szyszka, sadly it is only once a month but it is a funny and great way to spend some time out of your day once a month. His fellow pals form We Hate Movies has shown up a couple time but each episode he has some new and funny folk coming in or returning powered by the hot jams of DJ Krymulak this is a podcast like no other.

Fast Karate For The Gentle

This podcast is an anime podcast about food hosted by Dave and Joel to hot blooded, giant robot loving, Food(anime?) loving gents from above the mason dixon who have a good time and bring you along with them, oh and they talk about video games as well 😀

There you have it folks 10 podcasts to bless your ears with. So step back in to the bears den sometime so and I will have somethingelse to spout off to you, I promise.

Bears, Betas, and Beers!!

Well You read right this bear Is on the move through a beta read for a friend*cough* here’s looking at you Cat!!*cough*. I decided to do this post because well, I think beta reading is fun and being apart of the growth and creation of some ones world is just amazing. Also it will teach you think about critique another’s work and also guide you along the path of writing so yours gets better as well so it win, win all around. so here are a few things I have picked up along the way to help those seeking betas and those willing to or are betas themselves. also most of this is things form far bigger and better folks but passing on wisdom makes those listening and those speaking wiser right? right so on we go yes!

  • Make sure you inform your betas of any specifics input your looking for. It helps make the process much more stream. There is a time and place for a shotgun or a rifle.
  • If you are a beta try to read it two maybe more and each time look for one or two type of things to critique, as I said before shotgun versus the rifle
  • when looking Beta’s get those who are dependable, but also get a diverse crew not just authors look for artists, teachers, scientists, soldiers, cooks whatever because the more perspectives you get the better your writing will be trust me reaching a wide audience is key and running the gauntlet of betas is the way to success in this endevour.

(I bet there’s gonna be a lot of gun metaphors in this thing, what do you think? Eh? Eh?)

  • Give your betas your work in a form easy for them to manage ie Eformat, or a word doc they can convert, or a PDF just whatever makes it easiest for them. They’re doing you a service remember lol.
  • Beta’s don’t be afraid to ask for something to help you along the way. also communicate with the author, if something confuses you in the reading take a quote and shoot and email asking for clarification.
  • Don’t nit pick the small stuff. spelling can be easily fixed but a shitty character, drop plot line, or a plot hole the size of Jupiter not so much.
  • author’s don’t get offended we know this is your baby and we will be as gentle bu honest as possible, and beta’s don’t be fucking cruel man. Karma is a bitch let me tell you.

Well these are just some general things to think about when beta’ing or looking for beta’s.  If you have any ideas to add or think I spouting out absolute nonsense then let me know and comment away but until next this Big Bear *slips back in the den*

Book Review: If Your Writing Sucks, Quit.

I have been giving my self the business with these books to review. maybe that is why it has taken me so long because there so unique and fun and in this case helpful, that I can’t really talk about them or well don’t know how to talk about them. This post folks I am going to be talk about “If Your Writing Sucks, Quit”  by good and well OWG member T. James. This along with the previously blogged Bleeding Ink Anthology were two books I have been meaning to do reviews of and worm my way in to podcast interviews for. I am still working that last part so reviews will be gotten out of the way right now. so shall we?

first and foremost if you do not have a sense of humor even a little one just put the book down now alright? This is a great work of advice on writing and just handling your budding career as a scribe in general.  It is done in a way that if you are some kind of soft pasty lil nancy writer you might not like this one. I am not saying TJ is mean but he speak some very dry and a bit harsh truths. As an example I will talk about the first chapter which is titles “Do not be afraid of obscurity and delusion: No one knows you, so no one cares. Rejoice!” This may seems like some real harsh advice but seriously think about, even who has been doing this blog for a year and change now really am not known. The truth, focus and realizations in this book are all right there for you just in the title of the first chapter.

The humor comes in all over the place a very blatant big of cheesy humor is the fictitious author of the book Faye Ling(Failing) get it?…what….no? well whatever. The point is some of the tid bits in this book are spiced with that kind of humor along with very sarcastic tongue and cheek type flourishes. For the most part this is a balance and well used formula though it can be abit heavy handed at times or fall flat. I felt this was well the writing trying to either drive a point home or not piss off or hurt the feelings of the more sensitive types. I say go balls to the wall, go big or go home right? this books title is the embodiment of that idea and even comes back full tilt in the tenth and final chapter of the book.

being a wanna be fiction writer this book helped point out and teach me things I already knew and some I didn’t but all were valuable. even if it was something I already knew just said differently repetition is the easiest way to learn something right? This book covers the writing, the creation, and the business end of being an author and everything in between. I don’t Podcasting is covered in the book but TJ isn’t a podcaster though if i can get my hands on him maybe he will become one. one day.

so pick this up and give it a shot, you may not like all the things said, you may not pay attention to all that is said but you will come away from this book and a sense that someone tried to teach you something in all the book has to offer from its tone, to its message, to the things only noticeable between the proverbial lines.

Book Review: Bleeding Ink Anthology

Man so this review along with the other one i am planning on blogging today has been oh so long in coming. so sorry ladies for such a long bit with out getting things done. If you didn’t know what I was talking about when I said ladies, it is the Bleeding Ink Anthology.

The Bleeding Ink Anthology is not something I can easily describe because it is a blending of styles and literary forms. It creates a web of intricate pattern told in verse or short form or just in a few lines that it boggles my mind as to how, in this world, these lovely ladies could edit and put together such a work.

These written word Valkyries are Pat, Tammy, and Lisa. They put together an cast of writers that you probably wont see again for sometime. which has given birth to a very unique feel for this book. I wish I could go in to detail about each story or poem or what ever but it would ruin it. I say this because each author featured in the book twist ans turns into your mind with there word and almost always drops something unexpected in your lap that will catch you off guard, flat footed, or what ever descriptor you wanna put out there for being truly and honestly surprised.

I am an avid reader not a hugely fast reader any more but i still read at least 2-4 books a month(normally recently I been slacking for movies instead) weather it be Ebook, Hard or paperback, or audio. I get it in. This Anthology I only had one thing to tie all these chosen piece together. They had to be Dark Tales not necessarily horror, and not marry poppins, fartin’ rainbows out of chitty chitty bang bangs tail pipe either. Some of them are well strange or twisted, or makes you a bit leery and on edge. sometimes the truth is out there, other times its a simple case of murder, other times things go bump in the night and the monster under the bed eats your left over chinese. not saying these things happen in the book but that should cover the spectrum of what you will read.

All in all this was a fun and fiercely entertaining book which i recommend. I am not going to say it was perfect because this was there first shot with such a work and with 3 mind behind the wheel you can tell that there personalities and ideas still needed time to mesh together and smooth out some of the wrinkles. also the spacing and formatting of the ebook seemed to fill out more pages than ought be able to with its content. At 328 pages in eformat its that log but you get the bag for so please check it out.

Update: crazy self induced schedule

So I have been a busy lil bear, though i have let curtain things slack…namely my blog. I am getting back onto my content wagon so thank all of you for being so patient. what have i been doing you ask? well let me tell you lol.

first I have been podcasting Talk Nerdy 2 Me, is going strong at 8 episodes I have my cohost Amber and 3 guest hosts James(Face), Jen( The AK Tundra Baby), and Ish(The Wrastla!). these guys are great and help me keep things interesting.

Secondly I have been writing and editing like a mad mad. I have been editing my fantasy novel for my Online writing group at kelly armstrong’s forums. that is going at a good clip about 5 chapters in of 20 when i reach the end of it all I can start on new material for it. Since I am long winded I have figured with some sort of immoral mathematics that it will cap out at around 120-150k. new fictions consists of 2 things 1) a Erotic Romance story I was challenged to write by a friend whom love 50 shades of grey and i make fun of them for it so i have to now put up or shut up lol. I am happy to say I am done with the story part, I am just stuck on the sex part…who would have thought my vulgar ass would have trouble with sex huh? 2) I wrote a horror short and will have it up for friday flash this week.

So that is what I have been doing an now the things I have fallen down on are my blog and my short fiction. the horror and roman shorts are the first new short stuff i have worked on in months and as you probably already know my blog hasn’t had much new content in some months as well. for both of tose I am sorry and I promise I am not going to allow that to happen again. I have just posted the first of 4 new blog posts, I have rough outlines for some more flash fic, and even have the next 2 episodes of my podcast outlined. and with that below will be a list of things to look out for from Big Bear and company.

1) To Honor Love – erotic romance short(yes once edited i wil post it)
2) Scott Sigler GFL Podcast with Jen
3) Phoenix rising, and Janus Affair Podcast with Jen
4) Feed Me – horror Shoret for Friday flash
5) video game podcast with face and Jen – MoP, Boarderlands 2, and Darksiders 1 & 2
6) Bleeding Ink Babes interview(depending on if i can get them all at once or one at a time will determine if that is a 3 parter or 1)
7) Colin barnes interview
8) My first attempt at podcast fiction – King of the Blues
9) Feline army 3 part blog series
10) 10+ authors/peeps you should meet…twice! blog post

well I am done here keep and eye out for my coming content, and please enjoy your trips to my den and listen to those Talk Nerdy 2 Me Radio broadcasts echoing off the dens damp walls and let me know what you think on twitter or with emails and comments. also if you listen to the cast leave a review on Itunes we love them honest. so until next time.

Blogging and Podcasting

20120919-180739.jpgThings I have learned since starting to blog and podcast. range wildly at first glance. plus the fact it so overwhelming at first; how will you do content, what content, how often. it all wells up like some crazy flood in your brain until you feel like your going to drown. thats were the first lesson comes in to play

1) Organize what you want to do, a nd how to do it?

this basically means dont worry about the content but set up a schedule. one blog a week, one podcast a week or go bi weekly it doesn’t matter but pick something and stay with that. now that that is done the next rule is born out of circumstance.

2) can you handle what you have set to do, is it to much to start with?

this rule/question is just what it says can you keep up with your schedule and how you organized it? this is a killer once it starts going. simply because research, writing time, outlining time, editing, and working with other peoples schedules can all eat up your time and before you know it, recording or blogging day comes around and your like FUCK. this happens to be alot because I work nights so i am also tired and ready to sleep while everyone else is getting ready for the day and I have to find a way to put all this together and keep up my flow of content. sadly i am failing on my blog side of things and barely holding on with the podcast.

what is a great solution to this is having your cohosts and friends help you out. amber my cohost researches a segment called “nerdy girls corner” on her own i have no input into that other than checking things out before we record so i have some input during the show though nail polish based on doctor who is still a stretch. another thing is my new segment I turn to my boy face, his google fu is strong his internet presence in forums and such giving him great speed and skill with finding interesting articles and happenings on the web.

Now that you have organized your schedule, determined if this how things will work, gathered your companions, and content it’s time to out forth the other half of the equation. The blog, or podcast itself. Thus this next rule

3) Keep it simple

Keeping it simple includes your show or blog post and the equipment you use. For a blog it’s more or less can you cover the topics youngish to talk about or is it to hefty of a piece to cover in a sizable post. Now a podcast you need a mic and away to record to start that is it. No fancy mic, no major label recording rig just you, your cohosts and your mic. Once you get settled in and things are clicking and your schedule has worked out and your flowing with content then you can begin to put on the bells and whistles.

So remember whether its a podcast or blog:

1) Get organize
2) Recognize the amount of work and time it will take to accomplish what your trying to do, and determine if you can manage these requirements.
3) Keep It Simple

Well this is the Big Bear signing off and hoping I have given you potential casters and bloggers some help that much wiser and more experienced people gave to me. Until next time.

Balticon 46–Part 2

I know, I know I been slow to give thoughts on the con and I know I said this would be the random picture post, but I feel structure should reign for professionalism sake anyway. That being said I am going to discuss the Dealers room and the Three venders who had the best wares in my opinion. so with out further blather on my part lets get into it shall we.

Sadly I did not get pictures of this booth but this tandem of well dressed folk had all your period clothing you could ever ask for. I myself even procured a coat to begin my Steampunk cosplay for next Balticon. They had clothing for the ladies bodices, corsets as well.

It begins

They also had some awesome pocket watches that I looked at…

If you are in the Baltimore area next year around this time and Balticon is your destination you gotta check out these guys and pick up something spiffy for you are a loved one

Night Shade Industries

This couple would all the rage in steampunk. Tee Morris even had a swagger stick of Steampunk make constructed for a curtain Captain we all wait to see return amongst the creations of Mister Morris’ mind.

Steampunk accessories galore

Steampunk at it’s finest

Steampunk skull wall hanging

Jewelry Box

Steampunk Fairy Statues

These guys had so much fantastic stuff I can’t tell you how I probably could have spent my budget there and not complained one bit but alas I only bought one things from them and it was a doozy. A Steampunk flask which the bear quickly had filled with rum from Encaffinated One‘s stash

I know were the rum has gone

So definately check these guys out if your into the world of steam or awesome brass canes with 1,00,000 volt stun rods in them and I will leave you on that note.

Tiger Torre Art

This Tigress had wonderful hand crafted leather works for sale. She was the first vendor to make me say, “Damn I should have brought more money” because I wanted several of her masks on display. Especially the one below…

Brown Bear Leather Mask

When I say that It screamed “buy me you fool!” I do mean screamed but alas I could not this was my first stop and I wanted to be sure nothing else would arise that grab me so. The Tigress however only smiled and said “I also have black bear masks available as well”. I withered beneath such sultry persuasions not to mention the Tigress had an awesome set of “fangs” to sink into a poor feeble man such as myself. NO you sick little perv she actually had fangs *drool in remembrance* hush I am a nerd and I will enjoy what I will 😉

Before I left using my handy dandy Iphone I looked through her other wares and her website and gathered much  insight into the huge amount of craft this Tigress has to offer up.

Several masks Crow, and owl among others

More Fabulous Masks

Well there you have it, I know this is not the only booths at the con in the dealers room but these guys really put there wares out there and have the quality, craft, and skill to show you just why you should be throwing money there way. Trust I am already planing my emails when the funds are ready to acquire items for Balticon. with that said the bear is out of here and look forward to the last and final post on Balticon 46 the pictures post….oooh the anticipation.

Balticon 46–Part 1

As I have been a fan of podcasts, podcasters, and books. I have heard so many people talking about Balticon being the podcaster con, and never got around to going until this year. Man boy have I been missing out. This was the most amazing time I have ever had, I met so many people that are from podcasts that I listen to. I was in constant fanboy and it was great.

I needed to rehydrate and calm myself from 7 plus hour drive

My room was nice though I think I like the hotel at Anime Festival Orlando better

Looks comfy don’t it

My Digital landscape

The con hub for Sportcenter

If you guys watched my twitter or my Facebook I came up on Thursday giving myself a bit of recovery then the next day I began the con off right with a panel about steam punk with Tee Morris, Philippa Ballantine Morris, and Doc Coleman. This was my first time meeting the good doctor even though that morning I was eating breakfast and he was just outside in the lobby waiting for Nathan Lowell. The whole time we had been tweeting back and forth. Then later on I met up with Tee and Pip and the Manly Man Morris began his preparations for the New New Media party which was everyone showing up with meat and good beer at the Marriott Residence Hotel and Tee grilling it up. This was so much fun, we plan on doing it again hopefully it will get bigger.

I began the day with another awesome breakfast

Then I started out with a panel about editing your podcast with Michael L. Stokes, John Mierau, Paul Elard Cooley, Tim Dodge and John Anealio. I recorded this whole panel I am not a good filmer but its not to bad some shaky bits but nothing to bad. Though I am using the free wordpress and I haven’t got the video upgrade so I will figure out something either youtube or facebook or something.

Awesome and informative

I also went to the Geek Radio Live Panel and it was a blast to behold SHO-NUFF!

Next up was Tee and Pip’s signing then following them was Nobilis Reeds signing. Things were going good until I made the fatal flaw of goingto the room to take a nap as I was still very fatigued from the new new media party and I aggrivatingly slept through the I Should Be Writing Live panel by Mur Lafferty…maybe next year. I did how ever go to Scott Sigler‘s panel on Expanding his Galactic Football League series.

If only pictures could talk

The Wiener is!!!?

I rounded out the evening with a little Erotica Ala Cart: Iron Chef. There are pictures but these are..well they involve a plus penis, and the miss use of Rumbas so I don’t know if they could be placed on the blog just yet gotta ask some people for permission lol. Let me tell you if you can make it to Balticon next year this panel is a MUST.

Finally I went to the Greoge Hrab Concert it was awesome. The one down side is that I had only my iphone I captured video but it is not good quality and it would not do the awesome that George Hrab puts down at his shows justice. Then I finish the night up with more hanging wih folks and hittin the bar. A real girl herself bought me a drink and Scott and I talked up the playoff and the coming football season needless to say it aint a party unless your double fisting some sort of alcoholic beverage which is the reason I didn’t end up back in my room til 3am or so lol.

I started with some Mickey D’s I  McGriddles lol. Then I hit my first panel which was on building a religion in your Fiction with John C.Wright, Barbara Friend Ish, Gail Z. Martin, Bernard Dukas, and the awesome P.G. Holyfield. Then I went to Anime for parents and the Scifi in anime panels. The notable things about this is after wards I walked with the members of the panel who are on the Balticon Anime track and they want me to do Anime panels next year so look out Balticon 47 Big Bear will be in you.

After a nap(these podcasters can drink) I grab some lunch and head to the live Shared Desk. I recorded all of this as well(I need a youtube account) but the most exciting then other than a visit from Crazy Uncle Charlie was the world premier of the book trailer for the second Ministry of Peculiar Occurrences novel The Janus Affair.

Devo Spice Nerdcore at it’s finest

Riding this awesome wave I went to the Devo Spice concert and it was Fucking Hilarious and awesome and I will totally have to make a youtube account so I can post it up for you guys I recorded the whole thing every song from begining to end. Then I was off for the last night of partying

Monday’s big goodbye.

Was fun but sad for it was the last day of the con I attended Nathan Lowell’s reading and Doc Coleman’s reading

Reading Divine Inspirations: A blasphemy in 3 acts(Act 2)

Doc Coleman, and Yoji Kondo

Well That was my balitcon in a nutshell I have a blast and cannot recommend this convention enough to anyone who loves podcasters, or SciFi, or both. Part to will be just all the random pics I took from panels, around the con and the Monday goodbye/send off lunch. Well this is Big Bear signing off for now.

Friday Flash: A Long Walk Home

Immortal Whispers #4 – A Long Walk Home

“Fuck man, I will sure be glad when we get out this tower, where the hell is that change over” Jayce said chewing the end of his rather stale but enjoyable cigar.

“I bet Sarge made’em walk and used the fucking golf cart himself” Groves griped

Jayce went to continue his complaints when two headlights illuminated the gloom. Then Groves grabbed the radio as Jayce leaned down looking through the night vision/ thermal scope on the 240 Bravo machine gun. His eyes and the barrel of the weapon tracked the vehicle,a white sedan. A favorite of bombers, and the groups that supported such acts.

“Call it up, zero two, four two hundred hours” Jayce said “ passing west north west at about three hundred and forty degrees” he finished the machine like rhetoric, Groves repeated it.

“We got’em on the raid camera, Towers 5, 6, 1 do you confirm sighting” came over the radio

The towers confirmed, tracking the vehicle out of our sight range. It wouldn’t be out of the raid cameras range for another several clicks.

“Were coming up! Asshole made us walk”

“Glad I didn’t bet you B, or I would be short on cigar money” Jayce looked at his friend and shrugged

Jayce told Groves he was skipping chow, and would be trying to get some phone time in with his young wife, and child. The lines for the phones at this hour weren’t long at at matter of fact if you got in on the phone early enough you could talk as long as you wants really, and that was one if not the only reason for the mid to late guard shift. The booth was just a wooden box with Category 5 telephone/ether wire, or Cat 5 cable, ran down from the ceiling to a lan phone. They did what they could and accepted what they must. It was a blessing to have this Jayce knew as he remembered his month on the COP, Combat Operation Post, cooking for grunts. It was four metal containers, four towers, two platoons, and four holes in the ground.

The interruption of the droning ring brought him back to reality. The his wife made it all worth while.

“Love it’s me”

“Its so good to hear your voice, been almost two weeks?” her statement was an accusing question

“It wasn’t us Bae, another companies COP got over run… ” he paused not wanting to finish

“A lot of families to notify huh?”

Jayce let that hang, then spoke “How is she?”

“Hungry like her daddy.”

He laughed “can I talk to her?”

“She’s asleep finally love, next time promise”

“Its aright bae. So you wannna? You know? I am by myself” he stiffened at the thought her pleasing herself for him, moaning her desire for his return, echoed in the groans of her orgasm.

“When you get the Internet in your room from the guy you gave steaks, I’ll invite Cathy over to celebrate” she teased him , more accusation flavored the comment but he let it slide

“You sure do-”

The world around Jayce became a tornado of smoke, flame, and wooden shrapnel. Ears rang, fist still clutching what remained of the phone. He staggered to his feet, another explosion rocked the FOB. Machine guns fired mixed with the screams of the wounded and the dying. He had to find his weapon.

He frantically searched until the cool steel of the barrel met his hand. The soldier turned on. Thirty round magazine checked, slammed home, bolt drawn and released. A satisfying chunk sounded as the round seated. Locked and loaded, he turned to moved to the HQ tent when the war cries came. In the sparse lighting he could make out their indigenously garbed forms pouring through the breached wall, over the wrecked burning hulk of what remained of a white sedan.

“Fucking towel heads” he spat raising his M4 Carbine, and opened fire.

The world was chaos, bullets buried themselves into sandbagged bunkers he skirted for cover. He never stopped firing. Switching magazines with precision a cook normally wouldn’t have, but as a country boy weapons were like his cooking natural extension of him life. He made sure those at the business end felt all he expressed. Bodies fell to quick tight shot group. Hours passed, the report of weapons died out as the sun began to rise. In the carnage he had found Groves and they now stood back to back. The rumbled of heavy vehicles filled the air, Jayce sighed relief, the armored company must have came as back up. What came through the wall wasn’t a tank but three dump trucks. They froze.

“More?” was all Jayce got to say as the trucks stopped. Then all was noise and flame.

Jayce awoke, looking at the sky and coughed up a gout of blood, he hurt so bad. The hammer blow fell, he couldn’t feel his legs. Gritting his teeth he looked, his waist was a mass of entrails in a pool of his own blood. Upon awaking the second time he saw something he never could’ve imagined. His legs were bing pulled up to his torso by tentacle like tendrils of blood and sinew and before his eyes they reattached themselves. He wiggled his toes, they danced for him, next was the hard part, He tired to stand.

He staggered, fell, staggered again then finally found his footing. He was alive it was a miracle, he would see his daughter, his wife. He jumped for joy, slipped in something and fell. He looked over and there was the torn open chest cavity of Groves eyes open face askew in horror at his sudden death. Jayce picked up the weapon Groves clutched, took the ammo that hadn’t cooked off in the explosion, and closed his friends eyes.

He surveyed the devastation around him, locked and loaded his M4 and turned North towards there sister FOB.

“This is going to be one long walk home”

Friday Flash: Have Gun Will Travel

Sorry if this is a bit rushed but I have some things coming that I have to get done, what do you ask? well an ARC review of a novel, an interview with that author, and a video game review of the early parts to XenoBlade Chronicles, so hope you enjoy and keep and eye out for the Bear. Also looking into getting a banner made for the den so if you know any awesome artist drop me aline and I will check them out. any way enjoy

Immortal Whispers #3- Have Gun Will Travel

The cool breeze played across the rooftops, bringing with it the scents of the city below. So where someone was cooking, alcohol and piss foretold of someones bad hangover. This place was his home, his reality. Dirty, gritty, dangerous, all essence of what was real.

The target paused looking over the door women, a pretty blond, and smiled. She smiled back, but he didn’t move on. Chase breathed out, letting the meaty portion of his trigger finger squeeze back.

He held the breath, counted to seconds, then another slow exhale,

Squee-BLAM! The rifle jumped with the force of the bullet leaving with a brilliant white flash from the end of the barrel.

The blond leaned back a brilliant smile elegant and genuine spread onto her feature before laughter shook it away. The bullet met the targets skull just back of his left temple, neatly almost gentle. Then the transfer of energy came lifting up and opening the top of the targets skull letting to flap like an askew macabre toupee. The back of the eye socket ruptured out and shattered. The eye itself was untouched shot free like a shuttle escaping planetary orbit, only to crash land against the cheek of the blond. It popped like an over filled water balloon.

The rounds exit bloomed in the bottom right side of the targets face, loosing the teeth in his jaw like pearly white shrapnel. The blond laughed died on the vine becoming a shriveled, hollow wail as if she had been the one shot. Chase snickered to no one in particular while he broke down the rifle, and stowed his instrument in a mundane looking brown leather briefcase. He had to move. The shot would draw cops, cops could call choppers and set up road blocks. Speed was his savior, so speed was his way of life, so speed and a gun was how he lived up to his moto “Have Gun Will Travel”.

He slipped down the fire escaped, moving with well oiled grace. At the last level he jump the remaining ten or so feet and strode toward the end of the alley. He paused straightened his tie, smoothed over the breast of his suit coat and stepped out in to the morning flow. He arrive at the corner beneath a sign that said “bus stop” and check his watch it was 6:55am and he smiled. The bus pulled over and stopped at 7:02am a bit late but nothing beats some tension he thought as he stepped aboard ,paid the toll and took his seat right behind the driver. As the bus pulled away a streak of blue and red flashing lights shrieked by and again he smiled.

That evening Chase sat in the warm steaming water of his eightieth floor penthouse suite’s jacuzzi. The jets were turned off as he loved a good soak now and again, this days work pulled of with out so much as a arrant hair out of place deserved a meditative like trance of relaxation.

“Mmm” he moaned softly sliding a bit lower into the water.

His bodies unwanted tension let go but for one place. Soon though it this place too relaxed, and the cause rose from the water with a deep satisfied inhale and lick of his lips. The young man of no more than twenty five reached up and slicked back his coppery red hair. Chase had a thing for red heads, you could say it was his one and only weakness. So when this favorite of his called upset by the killing that happened on his doorstep, just before he went to work this morning he was only too obliged to let him come over and be comforted.

“Its getting late” the red head said standing to get out of the water

“Its not to late” Chase cooed, his hunger not yet sated

“True but I wouldn’t want give you a heart attack now would I?”

“Your just too good to me?”

The sarcasm in Chase’s voice was drown out as his lover turned on the jets as he rose naked from the water. He then followed the trail of crumpled cloths to the bedroom, then from there to the front door. Thing always started somewhere in the house and finished in the jacuzzi, it was a feverish routine they followed. Once dressed he called to Chase from the door.

“Get some rest, I’ll be by tomorrow, might even spend the night”

Chase looked up from the roiling water and smiled, this young thing was taming him, it felt oddly good.

“Fine by me, though I have been told I snore”

The red head smiled good bye opened the door into an awaiting shotgun. It wasted no time in greeting him with a roaring hello that opened his torso with ease. The second shot was unnecessary, as he was dead on his feet, but professionals are thorough. Thus it torn him clean in two the pieces on either side of the door. Chase was up and moving, but so where the killers.

He pulled his 1911 Pistol he kept on balcony were the jacuzzi was opening fire as he moved to his other stash of weaponry. Just as he moved into the house did the black clad man joined by two compatriots also in black unload with automatic fire that tore and pushed him back the way he’d come. He rested against the rail his body torn asunder as the first man with the shotgun stepped on the balcony. Chase saw the barrel raise, it erupted with a bang and white flash. It flung him over the railing and that was all knew.

Chase woke up on a floor. His body ached, but he managed to roll over.

“Where are you? Why you are in the Lock up” came a triumphant voice

“and we have much need for your specific set of skills, Have gun will travel…am I right?”
